Dan's priorities

A problem-solver focused on the issues at hand
As a healthcare provider and father, Dan zeroes in on the issues that matter. His focus on improving healthcare access and affordability, helping Minnesotans address cost-of-living challenges, protecting and improving our education systems, and preserving our state’s environment while investing in new technologies will create a better Minnesota for all.
Dan believes that healthcare decisions should be made between a person and their doctor, and supports a woman’s right to choose. Dan will co-author legislation that would codify Roe into Minnesota law.
Everyone should have the option to manage their reproductive health in the way that works best for them. Dan will work to ensure that access to contraception is a protected right in Minnesota.
Accessible healthcare is local healthcare. Dan will work to increase access to women’s health clinics across the state, so people can get the care they need when they need it.
Affordable, comprehensive healthcare is a basic human right. As a Minnesota State Senator, Dan will propose a public MinnesotaCare buy-in option, providing all Minnesotans an affordable opportunity for quality coverage.
High-deductible plans that discourage patients from seeing their doctor should not be the norm. Dan will work to reduce these barriers to care so Minnesotans can get the care we need, when we need it.
Seeking mental healthcare should be demystified and destigmatized. As a psychologist, Dan can advocate for the right policies to ensure mental health treatment is accessible and affordable to all.
Dan believes all medication – including psychiatric medication – should be made affordable. He will work to bring medication prices down for Minnesotans.
All of Dan and Michelle’s children attended (and still attend) public schools. They understand the importance of having a strong and equitable public education system that benefits all of Minnesota’s children.
Dan believes that an affordable education should continue after 12th grade. He will fight to make college and technical school affordable for all.
Teachers are the lifeblood of schools. Dan will fight to see that extremist anti-teacher legislation does not gain a foothold in Minnesota as it has in some other states, driving away good teachers.
Strong schools benefit everyone. They increase the equality and equity of all Minnesotans, improve the lives of students, drive local growth, and increase property values. Dan believes that our public education system should be fully funded at the state level.
Dan will support legislation that helps fund our trade schools and opportunities for other technical training. Students benefit and learn working skills while filling jobs across the state.
Colleges should not be worsening costs by charging predatory “access fees” for unnecessary online books and materials. Dan will work to ensure higher education costs are reasonable and students are not price-gouged for trying to get an education.
Dan supports student loan forgiveness for Minnesotans who engage in public service or work in underserved communities.
Dan will work to put money from Minnesota’s 9.5 billion dollar budget surplus back in the pocket of Minnesota residents. The current GOP-led Minnesota Senate agreed to a plan to do exactly that, then adjourned, leaving your money on the table. In a show of partisan politics, they now refuse to return for a special session to provide needed relief. Dan will work for bipartisan legislation that provides much-needed economic relief to Minnesotans.
During the height of the pandemic, individuals and small businesses suffered losses while big corporations continued to see record profits. In tax policy, Dan will always prioritize people over corporations.
Dan supports the right of workers to organize and collectively bargain. He believes in advocating for fair wages, benefits, and working conditions and will stand behind those that do.
As nature enthusiasts, Dan and his family are deeply respectful of Minnesota’s outdoor heritage and want future Minnesotans to fully enjoy the state as well.
As weather grows more extreme, farms and farmers are bearing the brunt of it. Dan will strengthen Minnesota’s support for farmers.
Dan will lead the fight for job creation and a new, vibrant future built on emerging technologies that strengthen both our economy and our environment.
Dan will support policies that support job growth and lower costs for Minnesotans. Adopting new technologies that will increase the amount of energy generated in Minnesota will both bring down costs and reduce dependency on foreign oil.
Dan will support legislation that rewards the adoption of emerging technologies and creates disincentives for polluters, keeping our lakes clean and our drinking water pure.
